HOW DOES COMPOUNDING WORK?

With a Doctor's consent, a Pharmacist can alter the form of a medication by adding flavour to make it more palatable or by changing its form to a gel, solution, lozenge or spray to make it easier for the patient to ingest. Almost any kind of prescription can be Compounded so it is ideal for patients requiring unique doses or delivery forms.

Who can Compounding help?
Compounding can help anyone who requires customised prescriptions, but most often it helps:

Children
It can be tough getting a child to take medicine because of the taste, but a Compounding Pharmacist can add a flavouring agent such as vanilla, chocolate or strawberry to help the process along.

Arthritis Sufferers
Some arthritic patients are unable to orally ingest certain medications due to gastrointestinal side effects. A topical compounded preparation of the prescribed anti-inflammatory can be developed instead.

Women - Menopausal
Hormone Replacement Therapy uses synthetic oestrogens to treat the symptoms of menopause. Another option for women is to use bio-identical hormones naturally derived from plant extracts that are biologically identical to those naturally occurring in women. A Compounding Pharmacist can develop bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy that can be adapted for each woman's individual body.
